Arm Lift

What is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a procedure to remove excess sagging skin on the arms, tighten and smooth underlying tissues, and reduce fat pockets in the upper arm area. Multiple factors can result in drooping, sagging excess skin on the upper arms including heredity, age, and weight fluctuations. This can lead to discomfort, difficulty buying comfortable clothing, and embarrassment for those living with it. Thankfully, an arm lift is a safe and effective solution.

Candidates for an Arm Lift

Adults who are bothered by a significant amount of lax skin on their upper arms and who are at a stable weight can often benefit from an arm lift. Ideal candidates will be nonsmokers without medical conditions that may impair the healing process. The best way to determine if this procedure is right for you is to schedule a consultation appointment at our office. During your consultation, you will share your medical history as well as other information to determine if this procedure is right for you. If so, a personalized treatment plan will be created to make your cosmetic goals a reality.

The Procedure

The length and pattern of your incisions will depend on the amount of excess skin to be removed. However, incisions are generally placed on the back of the arm or inside of the arm and extend from the underarm to the elbow. Liposuction is used to remove any excess fat. Incision patterns may include an inner arm incision, a back of the arm incision, or a minimal incision that is only created in the armpit. Incisions will be closed with absorbable sutures or stitches.

Recovery

Dressings or bandages may be applied to your arm lift incisions, and you may need to wear a special compression garment on your arms to help minimize swelling. A thin tube may also be placed under the sin to connect any excess fluid that drains. You should avoid lifting your arms above shoulder level while you heal, as well as avoid exercises that involve your arms as it may stretch the incisions.

Our team will provide you with instructions on how to care for your incision site and drains, as well as how to take any prescribed medication and concerns to look for when healing. Please do not hesitate to contact our office regarding any post-treatment questions or concerns.
