Microneedling

What is Microneedling?

Are you self-conscious or unhappy with the appearance of your skin? If so, you may benefit from microneedling at North Valley Cosmetic Surgery. Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that is used to address a variety of skin concerns. It works by stimulating collagen production in the skin to improve the complexion.

This treatment can be used to target:

  • Acne.
  • Scarring.
  • Hair loss.
  • Hyperpigmentation.
  • Large pores.
  • Poor skin elasticity
  • Sun damage.
  • Stretch marks.
  • Fine lines and wrinkles.

Candidates for Microneedling

Healthy individuals who wish to address the above skin concerns for a healthier, clearer complexion can often benefit from microneedling. You should not undergo microneedling if you are pregnant, have open wounds in the treatment area, have certain skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema, have a history of keloid scarring, or have recently undergone radiation therapy. Please schedule a consultation appointment at our office to learn more about candidacy.

The Procedure

To prepare for microneedling, your doctor may have you stop taking certain medications, as well as stop using topical retinoids for the best results.

To begin, a numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area to ensure you are comfortable during treatment. Next, a special microneedling pen-like tool that contains many small needles will be passed across the skin to create micro-wounds in the skin. This will stimulate the skin’s healing process, which triggers collagen production. After treatment, a calming serum or treatment will be applied to calm the skin.

Recovery

After your microneedling treatment you may experience temporary bruising, bleeding, or peeling. Downtime is minimal, so you can return to your regular activities as soon as you wish. However, you must take care to wear sunscreen when outdoors as your skin will be sensitive.

To maintain results, you will need to undergo multiple treatment sessions. We will recommend how often you should undergo microneedling depending on your individual goals.
