What are Lip Fillers?

These injectable treatments contain hyaluronic acid (HA) and are formulated to add volume to the lips for a natural-looking enhancement.
There are many different brands of lip fillers used today. At our office, we offer the following:
Juvederm XC
Addresses moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as smile lines around the mouth and nose by adding volume under the skin. Results can last up to one year.
Juvederm Volbella XC
Augments the lips and corrects lines around the lips called perioral lines. Results can last up to one year.
Restylane
This dermal filler can add fullness and volume to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles such as nasolabial folds. It can also be used to enhance the lips. Results can last up to 12 months.
Restylane Kysse
Designed to augment the lips with natural-looking volume. Results can last up to one year.
Restylane Silk
Specifically designed to augment the lips and smooth wrinkles around the mouth. Results can last up to six months.
Candidates for Lip Fillers
Both men and women who wish to improve the size and shape of their lips can benefit from lip fillers. Ideal candidates are physically healthy, do not have an active oral infection, and have realistic expectations for the outcome of their procedure. You should not get lip filler if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have been diagnosed with a bleeding problem, or have a history of severe allergic reactions. The Treatment
Treatment is fairly quick and straightforward. Your lips will first be cleansed and a topical numbing cream will be applied to diminish any discomfort during injection. Then, the filler of your choice will be injected into specific points in and/or around the lips to achieve the desired effect. Treatment can last anywhere from 15-60 minutes depending on the amount of change desired.

Following your lips filler treatment you may experience swelling, bruising, and sensitivity for about 24-48 hours. Ice packs can be applied to help reduce swelling and inflammation. You should avoid wearing any type of product on your lips for at least 24 hours, as well as avoid exercise for 24 hours. Be sure to stay hydrated and avoid touching your lips. Final results can be seen once swelling resolves.
