The Procedure
Liposuction is an outpatient procedure that is performed using local anesthesia, IV sedation, or general anesthesia. This procedure is performed through small incisions. A hollow tube called a cannula is inserted through the incision to dislodge fat cells, which are then suctioned out of the body. There is a selection of different liposuction techniques that can be used today. These include:
Tumescent Liposuction
This technique involves using a tumescent solution, which minimizes bleeding and discomfort during the procedure.
Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction
Ultrasound energy is used to help break apart fatty tissue and loosen it, allowing for easier removal.
Laser Assisted Liposuction
This technique uses laser energy to help loosen fat cells for easier removal.
Suction Assisted Liposuction
A vacuum device is used to help remove the fat.
Recovery
After your liposuction procedure, you may experience swelling, bruising, or discomfort which will dissipate with time. You may need to wear a special compression garment to help reduce swelling and support your new body contours.
